Good, healthy fun
It doesn't matter whether you are purchasing a juicer for the health benefits or just because fresh squeezed juice tastes better, a juicer is fun and easy. There are two main types of juicers: citrus juicers and juice extractors.
Citrus Juicers
A citrus juicer is essentially a way to extract juice from soft-centered citrus fruits like lemons, limes, oranges, and grapefruits. It can be as low-tech as a simple hand reamer that provides a drip tray and cone on which you manually twist citrus fruits to extract their juice, or you can purchase an electric citrus juicer that makes the job easier. Citrus juicers are perfect for making fresh morning beverages and artesian cocktails, and the juicer won't take up much room in your kitchen.
Juice Extractors
A juice extractor takes juicing to next level and allows you to not only easily extract juice from citrus fruits, but also "juice" vegetables or fruit and veggie combinations. Juice extractors use sharp blades to release the juice from the fruit or vegetable. The peel of many fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins and nutrients, a juice extractor allows you to toss in chunks of apple, pear, grapes, and even pineapple with the peel on. Of course, it is better to peel citrus fruits with bitter rinds like oranges, tangerines, lemons, and limes.
Organic If You Please
Many people purchase a juicer because they want the health benefits from fresh-squeezed juices, so why would you add pesticides and wax to all that goodness? Although organic fruits and veggies may be slightly higher in price, the lack of unwanted chemicals more than makes up for it, especially if you are juicing with the peel on. If you are unable to buy organic, several fruit and vegetable washes on the market can remove the majority of pesticides and wax from your fruits and vegetables.
